US$3.6 Million Contract Awarded to TurboSonic for Repeat Deployment of its Catalytic Gas Treatment (CGT)™ Technology
For Immediate Release
Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
July 13, 2011
TurboSonic Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board – TSTA), a global provider of clean air technologies, today announced receipt of a US$3.6 million contract for Catalytic Gas Treatment (CGT)™ technology for volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions reduction from particleboard production at Uniboard®, Moncure NC. The contract is scheduled for completion during the current calendar year.
The contract is for design, supply and installation of CGT™ technology for control of formaldehyde and methanol emissions to provide compliance with US EPA regulations for the Plywood and Composite Wood Products industry. CGT™ technology was selected over thermal oxidation, the traditional solution for VOC emissions control. CGT™ eliminates the need for the costly combustion of non-renewable natural gas, thus avoiding the associated greenhouse gas emissions of CO2, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and methane.
Edward Spink, TurboSonic CEO, commented, “This order is a substantial addition to our growing backlog. It will be the sixth CGT™ installation for Uniboard® and the third at the Moncure facility. The development of the patented CGT™ technology has created a new niche in an existing market. We believe that anticipated ROI will drive the purchase decision for CGT™ technology, which will result in the displacement of a significant number of thermal oxidizer and other VOC control products in industries including manufactured wood products and food processing. Unlike thermal oxidation, CGT™ offers “instant on/off” operation with no standby costs, which can be substantial for thermal oxidizer operation. And unlike biological treatment systems, CGT™ has no sensitivity to temperature (which can kill essential bacteria required in biological treatment systems) thus broadening the application for CGT™ technology. This is just one example of the technological advantage that TurboSonic commands in its markets and we will continue developing new solutions that respond to the progressively complex problems of air emissions control.”
