The Dow Chemical Company is introducing
a new, formulated, regenerable amine for removing sulfur dioxide (SO2) from gas streams.
The new amine formulation will be known as the GAS/SPEC* TurboSox Amine. TurboSox
Amine will be used exclusively in the TurboSonic SO2 Removal System, which is marketed
by TurboSonic Inc. It will be manufactured by Dow and supplied to all licensed customers
of the TurboSonic SO2 Removal System. Because it is regenerable, the GAS/SPEC TurboSox
Amine will produce diminished waste, and be a better value than conventional SO2 removal
technologies. TurboSonic has potential customers in a variety of industries around the world
that will benefit from this new chemistry.
The use of TurboSox Amine with the TurboSonic system could have an immediate,
positive impact on global manufacturing, as there is a global requirement for SO2 removal.
In large concentrations, sulfur dioxide is a harmful substance. It is a prime contributor
to air pollution. Acid plants, pulp and paper mills, and power generating facilities are
just a few of the industries required to limit SO2 emissions.
"We see this as a good opportunity in a business where we have a natural fit," said
Shelby Oostwouder, marketing manager for the Dow Gas/Spec Technology Group. "Adding an
SO2 removal amine to our existing line of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide removal
chemicals was a good fit for Dow. We are very pleased to be involved with TurboSonic."
The Gas/Spec Technology Group has over fifty years of experience manufacturing amines
and formulated amines for industry. Gas/Spec is part of the Specialty Chemicals division
of Dow Chemical. Gas/Spec's global headquarters are located in Houston, Texas.
*GAS/SPEC is a registered trademark and service
mark of the Dow Chemical Company.
